Au Naturale Homemade Yummy Flavored Lip Gloss

Make Your Lip Gloss Your Own with Favorite Flavors and Colors

Sometimes I would rather use something that I have made as a lip gloss instead of going and paying a lot of money for it and ending up with a shade I don't like or one that looks nothing like it did under the store lights. I can pick my own flavors and colors to use and end up with a lip gloss that is unique and different and made from things that I have and you probably already have around your house.

There are a lot of benefits when you make your own lip gloss. Homemade lip gloss has no preservatives, artificial colors, or artificial sweeteners. This makes the product less likely to irritate sensitive skin. You can add skin-pampering ingredients such as sesame oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter to your homemade lip gloss.

There are a lot of ways to make lip gloss that is all natural and you don't have to worry about all of the different chemicals in your lip gloss that will ruin your skin in the long run.

First you will need a little makeup spatula to mix and stir with. These can be found at a department store in the makeup section or in a beauty supply store. If you don't want to bother with one of those you can use almost anything! Popsicle sticks, cuticle sticks and q-tips work well.

You are going to need some kind of container to put your lip gloss in. you can buy little make up containers at department stores, contact cases work great, small disposable containers used for food storage work good, too. As long as you have something with a lid that will be convenient for you to put your lip gloss in.

Here is a lip gloss that has a slight brown color to it but looks great! My personal favorite! First you take a tablespoon of petroleum jelly and a tablespoon of melted bees wax and flavor with a teaspoon of cocoa powder. It looks and tastes great! Sometimes the thought of using petroleum jelly just doesn't work, so what do you do? Instead of using the petroleum jelly you can use a tablespoon of olive oil. Mix ingredients well, put on your lips and you're ready to go with a great look and a great taste! You don't have cocoa powder? Well, if you have hot cocoa mix in the packets you could use a half of a packet of hot cocoa mix instead. If you have the mix with the tiny marshmallows in it, you will want to remove the marshmallows first!

So the chocolate doesn't work for you? Okay, we will try something else! How about different flavors made with shortening? Melt a tablespoon of shortening in the microwave, in a small glass bowl and then add sweetened Kool-Aid drink mix using enough drink mix to color the lip balm and add flavor. Some flavors to try: strawberry, raspberry, lemonade, blueberry, cherry or orange. You do not want to melt the shortening in the microwave for too long, just enough to melt the shortening. Never heat it to boiling.

Like cranberries? Try this recipe: Microwave one tablespoon of sweet almond oil, 10 fresh cranberries and 1 teaspoon honey until mixture starts to boil. Gently crush berries and stir well. Strain liquid through a fine sieve to remove any solids; pour into containers. You end up with a nice color of gloss for your lips and a great flavor!

You like your chocolate, kool-aid and cranberry flavored lip gloss but sometimes you want a mint flavor. It is pretty easy to make your own minty lip gloss. First you need one teaspoon of beeswax and then you will grate it. Take a half a teaspoon of red lipstick or any of your favorite colors and a half a teaspoon of petroleum jelly and then add 4-6 drops of peppermint essential oil and 2 drops from a Vitamin E capsule. You can melt it in a small bowl in the microwave or in a zip lock bag under hot running tap water. Mix ingredients well and put into the container of your choice!

Another favorite of mine is honey flavored lip gloss for this you will need 1 tablespoon of Vaseline or petroleum jelly and 1/3 teaspoon of honey and of course, your small container to keep it in. First you put the Vaseline and honey in a small microwavable bowl and microwave until melted. Mix well and pour into container, allow to cool and you have your own honey flavored lip gloss!

If you wish to add color to your lip gloss you can use a cosmetic coloring available from home made body product supply stores. You can also use a small amount of store bought lipstick to tint the balm. Alternatively you can also use colored beeswax or candle dye as it is being used in such a small quantity it will not stain or harm your skin.

If you are going to re-use old containers from lip stick or lip gloss always make sure the old product has been cleaned out, wash the container with soap and water, sterilized with rubbing alcohol and rinse with clean water and dry the container before reusing it to prevent contamination of your lip gloss.

Feel free to experiment and try other flavors and colors made with various ingredients that you have and like, you'll enjoy the freedom of having any choice you want and like instead of what few choices you have in store bought lip glosses. Have fun!
