How to Make Your Eyes Look Bigger With Make Up

Big eyes are beautiful eyes. The most beautiful women in the world have big, open eyes. But some of us are not blessed with big eyes, including myself. For those of you that want to make your eyes bigger, there is hope! Make up is magic, when used properly and precisely. Here are a few easy make up tricks to make your eyes look bigger and brighter.

Mascara

Mascara is probably the most useful and most effective tool to make your eyes look bigger. Swipe a few coats to your top lash line. It will open your eyes up and make them appear more prominent as well as bigger. If you're feeling bold, and want to make an even bigger impact, apply some mascara carefully to your bottom lash line too.

Curl Lashes

Before or after mascara, whatever is your preference, curl your lashes. Lash curlers can really be life savers. If you don't have one, invest in one! There are some pretty cheap ones that can be found in drugstores for under $3. By curling your lashes, your eyes open up wider and appear bigger.

Brows

Full, well groomed brows can actually make your eyes look less tired and make them look more open and awake. Full brows add definition to your eye area. You can use brow powder or a pencil that matches your brow color. With short, soft strokes, fill in the sparse areas of your brows and give them a fuller shape.

Shimmery Shadow

Apply a soft shimmery champagne shadow all over your lip. A shimmery (not glittery) shadow can illuminate your eyes, and make them appear brighter. The shimmer will reflect off light, making your eyes appear bigger.

White Liner

Applying a white liner to your waterline can bring out the whites in your eyes, making them appear wider and brighter. Beige pink liners work well too. This gives your eyes a natural look while still enhancing them. Even apply the liner to your inner tear duct to open your eyes even more.

Red Lipstick Rules for Your Hair Color and Complexion

Nearly anyone can pull off red lipstick, but there are some rules that you should follow. There are many different shades of red, and what you should wear depends on your hair color and complexion. Whether your complexion is dark or if you are very light-skinned, there is a shade of red that will work perfect for you. The trick is to know how to find perfect that perfect shade. Use these red lipstick rules to wear red lipstick confidently.

Find the perfect shade

Remove any lipstick or lip balm from your lips so they are completely natural. Visit a makeup counter where you can try on different shades of lipsticks. Find some red lipsticks that you like and apply the shade to your top lip only. Compare the shade with your bottom lip. You want the shade on your top lip to be one or two shades darker than the natural color of your bottom lip. Once you find this, you have found the perfect shade of red for your lips.

Match red lipstick to your complexion and hair color

You also need to take into consideration the color of your hair and the color of your complexion when selecting a red lipstick for your lips. You should first decide if your skin tone is cool or warm. Once you know this information, you can easily find the right shade of red. If you have a warm complexion with brown or black hair, you should select red lipstick that has a brown base. Find lipstick shades such as coral, golden red, or deep orange. If your complexion is cool with brown or black hair, find shades such as burgundy, plum, or cherry red.

If you have blonde hair and a warm complexion, try shades such as copper red, orange red, or coral. If you have a cool complexion and blonde hair, try shades such as plump pink, light rose or red, dusty rose, or any shade of red that has a blue undertone.

If you have red hair with a warm complexion, you can get by with bright shades of red or orange red shades. If you have red hair with a cool complexion, try shades that are blue-toned or darker shades of red.

Take it easy on the blush

If you are going to wear a bright red lipstick, you should not wear a bright blush on your cheeks or it will be too much color. This can give you a clown look. Your red lips will be your focal point and you don't need a lot of other make-up to go with it.

Once you find the right shade for you, you can apply the lipstick and have a beautiful shade of red that goes well with your hair and complexion.

How to Apply Professional-Looking Makeup for Day or Evening Outings

As a representative for Bare Minerals makeup, I travel around the southeast doing beauty demonstrations and giving professional beauty tips to women of all ages. In a few months I will be attending the Mothers and Daughters Retreat, which is designed to educate young women on how to prepare themselves for the workforce. One of the greatest hurdles facing the underprivileged ladies that attend these retreats is that they don't know how to apply makeup for a work setting. In the first sections of my article, I will give tips on how to apply makeup for work and daytime, then teach you how to translate that to an evening look.

"Professional Beauty Tips" does not always mean beauty tips from a professional, but can also be read as "beauty tips to look professional." Many women think that to look beautiful, they need more makeup, but the opposite is often true. Let's start with the foundation:

Before you can even think about applying makeup, it is essential to have a clean foundation. To wash my face, I use DHC brand Mild Soap, but you can use any face wash that suits your skin, as long as it is not a bar of body soap or liquid hand soap. These are too drying, and by washing all the moisture off your skin, your cells will try to re-hydrate themselves by producing excess oil. You know you have a good facial wash when your skin feels clean and slightly tight, but not drawn or flaky.

Next, re-introduce moisture in the form of toners and moisturizers. Unless you have very oily skin, don't use a toner with alcohol. I recommend DCH Olive Leaf, with has a smooth liquid consistency that can sometimes be substituted for moisturizer during very humid days. Finally, pat (not rub) your moisturizer of choice on your skin. For younger women, if oil and acne is a concern, use a light, oil-free moisturizer. For older ladies, a heavier cream can hydrate better. Both Philosophy and DCH make a great range of products for dry skin, while Dan Kern's Acne Solution moisturizer is perfect for breakouts.

Before you begin your makeup routine, take a look at your equipment. Michelangelo didn't paint the Sistine Chapel with dime store brushes; you can't create a work of art on your face with cheap brushes and pads. Both Bare Minerals and DHC offer reasonably priced makeup brushes, but other quality brushes will do just as well. They should feel soft yet sturdy, and still retain their bristles when you pull on them gently. They should also be sturdy enough to be cleaned regularly, which is essential to stopping the spread of bacteria from your face to your makeup, and back again.

Now you are ready to apply your foundation. With my method, you will use the same foundation technique for work, evenings, and weekends, and adjust your color areas, such as eyes, cheeks, and lips, according to the location and time of day. Since I use a mineral line of cosmetics, I use the same product for foundation as well as concealer. I simply use a smaller brush to apply a concentrated amount to bumps or red spots, then use a larger brush to lightly brush over the rest of my face. Bare Minerals also makes a great concealer "bisque" that can be used on particularly discolored skin.

If you chose to use a liquid foundation, be sure to choose one that matches your skin. It's difficult to gauge the how well a color in a bottle, lit by the fluorescent lights of a drug store, will look on your skin in natural light. If you can, dab a small bit on your jaw line and look in a mirror to see how well the colors match, then step outside and check again. Some companies now make "adjustable" foundation bottles that you can turn to create your own custom shade. Matching is very important; no matter how high the quality of your foundation is, all your beauty efforts will be ruined by the dreaded "orange line".

Applying foundation:

Conventional wisdom calls for a woman to apply dots of concealer, then spread foundation over the rest of the face. But think about it -- isn't the concealer being spread too, to areas where it's not needed? When using the same mineral product for both purposes, the order is not as important, as you can always go back and brush on a little more on trouble spots. What I like to do with liquid foundation is apply an even coat over the skin, the follow up with under-eye concealer in a slightly lighter color. Blend the foundation in smooth, even strokes, from the eye area down. Don't end with one solid swipe across the jaw line, as this can create a noticeable color divide between your neck and face. Instead, blend this area with gentle strokes or circles. Whether for day or evening, only use enough foundation to even out your skin tone....never try to change to color of your skin with foundation.

Cheeks -- Daytime:

For day or for work, you want to create the look of a natural blush, or having just enjoyed a weekend in the sun. Chose a high-quality bronzer that is no more than four shades darker than your actual skin, and lightly brush it on your cheekbones and the ridge on your forehead, wherever the sun naturally hits you. If you want to create the illusion of higher cheekbones, mix the bronzer with a lighter powder and brush in an upward motion under your cheekbone to create the illusion of a shadow. This shadow should only be a shade or two darker than your skin, or it will look unnatural.

Use blush on the apples of your cheeks rather than across your cheekbones, and apply with a light hand. If you are young, and naturally have rosy cheeks, you may be able to skip this step altogether. The same goes for foundation: girls and teenagers may only need to use it in small spots, rather than all over, if their skin is naturally bright and firm. The goal (especially for daytime) is a natural, effortless look.

Cheeks -- Evening:
Here you can have a little fun beyond the basic bronzer. If you are using a pale pink during the day, you can use a bolder rose for evening. Still, it is important to apply lightly, as nothing ages you more than too much blush in the wrong places. For going out in the evening, you may even use a little shimmer to highlight the cheekbone. For older ladies, a light powder with light-reflecting minerals would be more appropriate than a shimmering gel. And never use glitter, unless you are going to a costume party.

Eyes -- Daytime: For work, and during the day, it's best to keep eye makeup simple. For one, bright light magnifies the color on your face, and unless you are performing on stage, you don't want to look like a showgirl at work. The best eye treatment for daytime is a light coat of mascara and eyeshadow. I prefer to leave eyeliner for the evening. When picking a shade of eyeshadow, try to pick a color complementary, rather than matching your eye color. Browns and tans look great with blue eyes, golds with green eyes, and purple and pink with brown eyes. For daytime, I suggest just using one shade at a time.

Eyes -- Evening: Nighttime is the perfect time to play up your eyes with bold colors. I like to use a "rainbow effect" for the lid: Start with the darkest color for the eyeliner, the second darkest for the lid, then blend a lighter color into the browbone. For the more daring, using opposite colors for the eyeline and lid, but keep the browbone pale or neutral. If you line the lower lid, make the line thin, and blend well, as a heavy outline around the eyes will make them look smaller.

A great way to open up the eyes is to use a shimmering highlight on the interior corner, between the eye and the bridge of the nose, and also at the most prominent point on the brownbone. Once you have applied all the colors, use a small brush or q-tip to gently blend the lines.

Lips -- Daytime: Again, less is better, especially for the office. I actually recommend to my clients that they use a tinted lipgloss during the day, rather than a thick lipstick. For some older women, lipstick does work better to create a smoother appearance, but should not be very dark in shade. And unless you are skilled at its application, skip the lipliner -- it can create a clownish outline effect, and doesn't make your lips appear any bigger of fuller. Only use lipliner sparingly, and only on areas where the color of your lip appears to blend directly into the skin, and needs definition. In these cases, the liner should match the lipstick, rather than be a shade darker, which is a mistake many women make.

Lips -- Evening: When going out at night, it's ok to choose a bolder lipcolor -- just make sure you aren't doing bold eyes, cheeks, and lips. The difference between looking like a professional makeup artist did your face and an amateur is knowing when to play up, and when to tone down. A professional makeup job emphasizes one area, eyes, cheeks, or lips, without competing with other areas of your face. When in doubt, use less makeup, and apply small hints of color.

How to Enhance Brown Eyes

Discover How to Enhance the Color of Your Brown Eyes
Brown eyes can be mesmerizing in their complexity. There are so many variations of brown and if you look closely you can often find flecks and sparkles of other colors intermixed among the browns. You can make brown eyes even more exciting to look at by using a few simple makeup and clothing tricks. Here's how to enhance brown eyes:

Enhance brown eyes: Makeup

The most important decision you'll make when deciding how to enhance the color of your brown eyes is what eyeshadow shade to select. Although browns may vary in shade as a generalization greens, rich golds, and metallic bronzes tend to be some of the more striking colors for brown eyes. To give your eyes more depth, you'll want to use several shades of eyeshadow with one lighter shade serving as a highlighter for the shades you apply to the lids and crease.

Take a close look at your eyes and determine what underlying color tones they have. Do you see twinges of yellow? If so, you may want to add an eyeshadow with a plum or purple tone since these are opposite colors on the color wheel which can cause your eye color to really pop. Do you see flecks of red in your brown eyes? In this case, a green tone placed on your eyes will help to enhance the underlying red in your eyes, giving them more depth.

You can use the underlying colors of your brown eyes to dictate the color of your eyeliner. If you see yellow tones, go for a rich plum or purple liner. If red, a dark green liner will be more flattering. Unlike people with blue or green eyes, your darker skin usually allows you to wear a deeper shade of mascara such as dark brown or black. Be sure to curl your lashes and apply several layers of volumizing mascara to make your eyes stand out even more .

Enhance brown eyes: Clothing

The clothing you select to emphasize the color of your brown eyes may vary depending upon your hair color and your underlying skin tones. One way to determine your basic underlying skin tone is to look at your veins. Do they appear more blue or green in color? If they are predominantly green, you probably have warm undertones to your skin. Blue veins imply your skin tones are cool. This can help you choose the most appropriate colors to bring out your eyes.

If you have warm, golden undertones to your skin and warm, golden or red tones to your hair, you'll want to look for clothing in shades of deep orange, golden brown, olive, dark brown, and camel. To find shades that are right for your skin and eyes, go to a fabric store and hold various fabric shades against your face and see which colors make your eyes stand really stand out.

If you're a brunette with cooler tones to your skin, your eyes will be enhanced by bright primary colors such as royal blue, crimson red, and lime. You're also one of the few groups who can really carry off bright yellow as a full outfit. Yellow worn with gently tanned skin can really make your brown eyes pop. Don't forget to add a pair of gold earrings. Gold is a metal made for brown eyed girls.

If you have beautiful brown eyes, why not help them to really stand out by making the right makeup and clothing choices?

Puffy Eyes: Some Do's and Don'ts

People often talk about puffy eyes and bags under the eyes as if they were the same thing. But the two conditions are actually quite different. Bags under the eyes are caused by fat that has accumulated in the under-eye area over time. Once you have bags under your eyes, there's not much short of plastic surgery that can get rid of them. (Although there are ways to conceal them.)

Puffy eyes are a temporary condition often caused by fluid retention. Changes in your hormones (which can occur during pregnancy or menstruation), or even changes in the weather can cause puffy eyes.

Other things that can cause puffy eyes are lack of sleep, crying, drinking alcohol, eating salty foods, or sleeping on your stomach. Drinking a glass of water as much as two hours before going to bed can make you wake up with puffy eyes. If your puffy eyes are red and itchy, they may be caused by allergies. And, in some cases, puffy eyes are hereditary.

Here are some home remedies that can help you deal with puffy eyes.

Use a cold compress on puffy eyes.

Wet a washcloth with cold water (you can use tap water or ice water), and ring it out. Hold the compress over your puffy eyes for fifteen minutes. (Whenever the compress starts to get warm, dunk it in cold water again.) This should relieve the swelling.

Cucumbers are good for puffy eyes.

For decades, people have been using chilled cucumber slices to take away the swelling of puffy eyes. So, if you have a cucumber handy, give it a try.

Sleeping with your head elevated could prevent puffy eyes.

If puffy eyes are a constant problem for you, try sleeping with a few extra pillows. This may help prevent fluids from accumulating around your eyes.

If your puffy eyes are itching, don't rub them.

Rubbing puffy eyes will only irritate them, and make them even puffier. So, no matter how much your puffy eyes itch, resist the urge to rub them.

Don't use hemorrhoid cream on your puffy eyes.

Some people swear that hemorrhoid cream will reduce the swelling from puffy eyes. And maybe it will. However, the chemicals in hemorrhoid cream could be harmful to your eyes, and the delicate skin around your eyes. So, this is one home remedy you might want to pass on.

When should you see a doctor?

Usually, having puffy eyes is a strictly cosmetic problem. However, you should see a doctor if:

• The swelling is really severe, or is only affecting one eye. This could mean you're having an allergic reaction to something.

• Your eyelids won't close all the way, a sign of possible thyroid disease.

• The puffiness doesn't go away.

• You've noticed swelling in other parts of your body.

Puffy eyes might not be a serious condition. But nobody wants to leave the house in the morning with swollen, puffy eyes. And, with these home remedies, you can make your puffy eyes a thing of the past in no time.

Money Saving Skin Care and Makeup Tips for Old Ladies

Money Saving Skin Care Tips

With the exception of Chinese Shar-Pei puppies, no other creature on earth has more wrinkles than an old lady. Medicare doesn't pick up the tab for Botox or surgical procedures and on Social Security finding money for skin care products to smooth out facial wrinkles can be a problem when you're already eating cat food instead of tuna.

Discovering the secret of no-stitch and product-less reduction of facial wrinkles came about quite by accident on laundry day. Exactly how this money saving skin care tip evolved is a closely guarded secret but the end results of that meticulous research will help you get the same, wonderful results as using a high priced, fancy-mancy collagen concoction and for just pennies a day.

Here's the secret. Stand in front of your bathroom mirror and draw your index finger across your cheek from your nose to your ear, pushing the wrinkles along as you go. When you've gone as far as you can hold your finger tight to your face and with your other hand, take a clothes pin and pin the extra skin to your earlobe. Repeat on the other side of your face. With practice, the results can be amazing. Your saggy skin smooths out as if you've used a $125 an ounce anti-aging product and the best part is that you can paint or decorate clothes pin 'earrings' to match all your favorite outfits. This technique replaces all those bottles and jars you're being told are must-haves in the advertisement section of Hot Old Ladies Magazine.

Money Saving Makeup Tips

The best money saving makeup tip you'll ever find can be downloaded off the internet. If you're not computer literate get one of your grandchildren to take sixty seconds of their valuable time to print you off a full color photograph of the late Tammy Faye Baker. Then take a red magic marker and draw a big circle and slash line on the photo. That way, when you tape the photo to your bathroom mirror you'll remember that Tammy is there to remind you that less is more and she is not an exemplary example of how you should look.

Using less make up, of course, saves lots of money but it's terribly hard for old ladies to do. When you're in the Metamucil stage of life and applying makeup, it seems to disappear on your face like peeing on a sponge only to show up later in day when you're out in public. To avoid this age-related phenomenon remember that layering makeup only looks good on Bozo's girlfriend. Another important tip is to think of your face as coloring book. This will help you stay within your lip and eyebrow lines when applying makeup. Nothing looks worse that ruby red fish lips and penciled-in MacDonald arches over cataract encrusted eyes.

As you can see, saving money on skin care and makeup is easy to do with a little restraint and a clothes pin bag.

The Best Products to Get Rid of Puffy Eyes

A Quick Guide to Get Rid of Puffy Eyes

If another long night has left you looking slightly under the weather, it's good to know there's help available for the puffy eye dilemma. Puffy eyes are a result of fatigue, stress, dehydration, and too much salt or alcohol in your diet. There are thousands of products claiming to reduce puffy eyes or dark circles overnight, but if you don't have time for the trial and error process, here's a quick guide to the best products to get rid of those puffy eyes immediately:

Biotherm Hydra-Detox Yeux is a powerful moisture infuser, and will perk up the eye area instantly. Just apply about a quarter of a teaspoon on the eye area to tighten and tone your skin and protect this delicate area in the process. The gel-like cream is easy to travel with, and will give your face an instant pick-me-up during those long afternoons at the office.

Clinique Daily Eye Benefits is a great eye cream to firm up and tighten your skin; it's a richer moisturizer, but will give you the instant lift after a late night. Just apply about half a teaspoon to the lids and let it dry; it stays put under makeup, and using this daily will help improve the area over time.

The Pacifica Blue Chamomile Soothing Eye Gel contains potent herbal extracts and vitamins. You'll enjoy the tightening effect of this gel for instant relieve, and keep in mind that just a little goes a long way. The gel is fragrance-free and perfect for sensitive skin.

St. Ives Cucumber & Elastin Eye and Face Stress Gel is another leading contender for your puffiness-reduction plan. The gel is easy to apply and works as an instant refresher; if you're at the computer for extended periods of time, keep this one by your side for some easy refreshment. Use this one each night to reduce the chances of morning puffiness; it's an easy treatment to include in your nightly beauty routine.

If you're looking for something with SPF protection, the Dermalogica Total Eye Care cream is the best pick for all-day treatment. The cream absorbs quickly but you do need to rub it in; just apply it at night before bed as an ongoing treatment, or use it as an emergency solution for puffy eye relief.

Simply drinking plenty of water on a regular basis will help reduce your risk of the 'Shrek effect', and even a splash of cold water can deflate swollen eyes. However, if you're suffering from aleergies, you'll need to get some antibiotic medication from the doctor. Take your pick of these products next time puffy eyes are your biggest beauty dilemma!

What Makeup Brushes Are Must-Haves for the Average Person?

Makeup Brush Basics: The Kind of Brushes an Average Makeup Wearer Should Have

Makeup artists have hundreds of brushes in their collections. They work with countless clients, creating a number of different looks-of course they need a variety of brushes that carry out a variety of different tasks. The average makeup wearer, on the other hand, doesn't usually require such versatility from their brushes.

Whether you're looking to complete your makeup collection on a budget, or you're a teen just starting out, or in some other makeup boat, there really are a handful of makeup brushes that can make a world of difference in seamlessly applying makeup. Here's a guide to help you decide which makeup brushes might be right for you, and consequently, which brushes might just be a waste of money.

There are obviously exceptions, and everyone is different, but here are my basic makeup brush recommendations to anyone seriously considering wearing makeup. If your budget allows, and you're interested, you can obviously find use out of a few other makeup brushes as well.

Makeup Brushes Must-Have #1: Foundation Brush (or Sponge)

If you wear powder foundation, your purchase probably came with a fairly decent foundation brush. Some people still buy a separate brush to further enable blending foundation in, but that's entirely up to you. If you're doing fine already, there's no need to buy a second brush.

For me, the brush that came with my L'Oreal Mineral Veil is short and wide, which doesn't always let me spread and blend my foundation powder as well as I would like to. Hence, having a longer and narrower foundation brush makes applying my foundation easier and the results much more appealing.

I also have liquid foundations that I use. Some people do still use brushes for applying liquid foundations, but I prefer using either my fingers or a sponge. Your preferences will dictate if purchasing a foundation brush will be helpful to you or not.

Makeup Brushes Must-Have #2: Blush Brush

For applying powder blushes, I don't think there is a good alternative to using an actual blush brush, which--most of the time--has to be purchased separately from the blush itself. Most basic blushes either come with no brush or with a small rectangular one. Using a small, uniformly-bristled brush isn't a great option for conservatively using product and blending it in well to your face.

For the best visual results without wasting your blush, I think it's worth it to invest in a good blush brush. You don't have to pay an arm and a leg for one-drugstore quality works fine for me. But, I'd recommend purchasing a real blush brush. It's shaped almost like an old-fashioned fan that an elegant woman would use when courting. With fanned out bristles, a blush brush is wide when looking at its front and is narrow when looking at its side, perfect for applying powder blush onto the apples of your cheeks.

Makeup Brushes Must-Have #3: Eye Shadow Brush

Serious palettes may not come with them, but most basic eye shadow quads and pans come with eye shadow applicators. For simple, one-color looks, these applicators might work fine for you. But when you get in to using different eye shadows to accent your crease, and to highlight your brow bone, you'll probably find it helpful to have one, or a few, eye shadow brushes.

With a brush, you'll be able to add a little color here and there and blend it well, giving you the option for more creativity and a better overall look. I have one eye shadow brush, and simply clean it between applications of different eye shadow colors as necessary, but purchasing a few brushes might be what's best for you.

Makeup Brushes Must-Have #4: Bronzer Brush

If you wear bronzer, I highly recommend buying a makeup brush to be used strictly for applying bronzer. It's easy to think you can share a foundation brush, or even a blush brush, with your bronze powder-but I don't think you'll like the results. Bronzer, as well as other powdered makeup, has a knack for staying on a brush.

I could use my blush brush to apply bronzer and the results would be fine. But without a deep clean in between, if I go back to my blush with bronzer on my brush, I'm going to hate the results. You might have a different experience, but unless you're willing to continually deep clean a shared brush, I'd say just get a brush to use for applying a bronzer. It doesn't have to cost a lot, and it might make your life that much easier.

Top 6 Eye Makeup Brushes

How to Choose the Eye Makeup Brushes You Need

When it comes to eye makeup, it's no secret that using the proper brushes can affect the outcome of your eye makeup. There are many types of brushes for eye makeup to choose from. So many, in fact, that sometimes, choosing the brushes you need can be quite overwhelming. You honestly do not need to purchase them all to get the look you are going for. Certain eye make up brushes are crucial to specific looks. It's best to choose brushes that will be beneficial to your specific eye makeup look.

Eye makeup brushes come in all shapes and sizes. There are fluffy eye shadow brushes, stiff brushes, fat or thin, tapered or angled brushes. In order to decide which brushes you need, first you must figure out what look you are going for and which brushes will best suit your eye. There are a few key brushes for eye makeup you should have to create certain looks. You can decide which brushes you need, based on your preference.

Paddle eye shadow brush

A "paddle" eye shadow brush is a good brush to have for looks where you need to pack on the color. These brushes have thin, dense bristles usually shaped like a paddle with a domed or tapered tip. The thin shape and dense bristles are designed for packing on shadow. They work great when you're using bright or bold eye shadow colors. They are also essential for very opaque eye shadow application. When I use this brush I get the best results when I press the eye shadow onto my eye lid, rather than sweeping it across. This brush also works great if you want to use your eye shadow wet or with a mixing medium. I use the same "pressing" method for best results.

Fluffy Shadow Brush:

A fluffy eye shadow brush is best to use for an all over lid wash or when you want your eye shadows to show up more sheer. A fluffy eye shadow brush usually has a large head with fluffy, less dense bristles. When using this brush it's best to buff your shadow on in a circular motion rather than pressing or sweeping. In some cases your fluffy eye shadow brush can double as a blending brush, if the bristles are not too floppy.

Pencil brush

A pencil brush is a brush with a short tapered tip, almost resembling the tip of a sharpened pencil. A pencil brush is a must have tool for pretty much all eye makeup looks. It is a multi-tasker that can be used for a number of things. You can line or smudge your bottom lash line with eye shadow or cream liners using this. This brush also works great for detail work in the crease, especially if you're going for the cut-crease look. It can also be used to apply darker shadows to the "Outer V" area of the eye lid. It's a great brush to use for precision eye shadow application and can be a very good crease brush for someone with smaller eyes and less lid space.

Blending Brush

A blending brush is used to blend away harsh or unnatural lines in between eye shadow colors and for all over eye shadow blending. If you find yourself with eye shadow that is too dark or harsh, a blending brush will help you sheer out the color. Sometimes a blending brush will have a fat fluffy head, other times it may have a tapered head. Choose your style by determining your eye shape. A tapered headed blending brush works best for those with smaller eyes or a smaller crease. Make sure the bristles of your blending brush are a bit firm. They shouldn't be stiff but if they are too floppy, it probably won't be very good for blending.

Angled Liner Brush

An angled liner brush is essential if want to use gel, cream, or cake eye liners. It is an eye liner brush, often times called a brow brush, with a short and thin angled tip. I think the angled liner brush works the best and is easier to use than a small pointed liner brush. The angled tip helps you to have some control while lining. You can use this brush to get a very thin line or a thick line. For a thin line, keep the brush as close to the lash line as possible while applying, basically pushing the liner into the base of your lashes.

Smudge Brush

A smudge brush is essential for the smoky eye look. Smudge brushes come in many forms including foam tipped and bristled tips. I prefer to use a bristle tipped smudge brush because the foam tips tend to absorb makeup and interfere with application. A bristled smudge brush is usually a very tiny headed brush with very dense bristles and often a domed tip. This brush will help your look by smudging your eye shadows or liners in order to create a smoky effect.

If you choose the right brushes, you can be assured that you will be able to do your eye makeup to your liking. You may find that application becomes easier and you will love the results much more.

Best Makeup Tips for Summer

If you want to look your best when the weather is hot, you are going to want to follow these summer makeup tips. Many people walk around in the warmer weather and look like ther are melting. Melting was not in style when the witch in the Wizard of Oz did it and it is not in style now.

These makeup tips are designed to help you look cool and carefree, no matter where the summer fun might take you. You can easily add these to your existing beauty routines to make the transition to summer fun easy for you.

Number One

Go for light weight formulas in all of your cosmetic products. This will allow aire to flow freely to your skin. You will feel cooler and your products will not melt off this way.

Number Two

Use bronzer instead of self tanner on your face to get that sun kissed look. If you were to get a natural tan, your skin would get darker on certain areas of yoru face like your nose. You can mimic this natural look much easier with a bronzer.

Number Three

You can easily include sun protection in your makeup routine when you choose products that have an SPF in them. Many foundations have at least an SPF of at least 15 in them. Protecting yourself from the harmful rays of the sun is a must during the summer. Having your makeup products help you out with this makes it super easy to do.

Number Four

Clear washes of colors are always in style when it comes to summer day looks. Many of the shadows that are available in this type of product will make your eyes look like they are a beautiful water color painting. There are many great options out there in the cosmetics world for you to experiment with sheer colors. Pick up a few and get ready to shine!

There are too many women that go without any beauty products on when the weather starts to get warmer. They are not lucky enough to know these makeup tips that will help them to update their cosmetics bag so that they will still be able to create flawless looks even when the temperatures soar. Now that you have learned these important beauty tricks, make sure that you put them to good use so that you are always looking your best.

Stay-Put Makeup for Those Hot Summer Days

Summertime means fun in the sun. It also means sweat and extra oil production. Both of these can lead to makeup that runs, smudges or even magically disappears. However, there is no reason why you should be subjected to streaked foundation, smudged eyeliner/mascara and disappearing eyeshadow. With the variety of waterproof, sweat-proof and long-wearing makeup formulas available, your makeup should be able to last a summer day without fading, creasing, smudging or streaking.

Choose a Summer Foundation That Fits Your Daily Activities

If foundation is a must for you, choose one that can withstand your summer activities. For those who spend a little to a moderate amount of time in the sun and heat, a long-wearing or "stay put" foundation is best for you. These formulas can withstand a little bit of sweat to prevent streaking. However, their main benefit is to withstand heat to prevent the foundation from melting or looking cakey due to extra oil production. Honestly, who wants to look like a grease monkey wearing pancake makeup?

If you are active during the summer, working up a lot of sweat or spend a lot of time in the water then a waterproof foundation is best for you. Waterproof is not the same as longwearing. So do not expect for your foundation to last for hours without fading or caking. Vincent Longo Liquid Canvas Foundation is a waterproof foundation with a dewy finish that is ideal for summer.

Eye Makeup That Can Take the Heat and Water

Waterproof eye makeup is nothing new to cosmetics. Most women own waterproof mascara and eyeliner already. Face it, these were proven lifesavers while watching any movie adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks book. Waterproof eyeshadow took a little longer to make onto the cosmetics scene.

Long-wearing eyeshadow that will not fade or crease due to the heat has been around for a few years. However, long-wearing eyeliner and mascara are more recent additions to long-lasting cosmetics. Companies are creating mascara that lasts well beyond an eight-hour workday. Clinique's Lash Power Mascara Long-Wearing Formula claims to last for a full 24 hours. How is that for staying power?

A Lasting Pout That Won't Dry Out

Lip color was perhaps the first makeup to be made in long-wearing formulas. Women everywhere rejoiced until our puckers would dry out and the lip color would begin to flake. Long-lasting lip color has come a long way since then with formulas that last for eight hours or more, without making our lips feel like we walked a day in the Sahara. Cover Girl Outlast lip color and lip liners provide long-wearing color that stays put and does not dry lips.

This summer do not be a victim of runaway and disappearing makeup. Choose a long-wearing or waterproof formula that best fits your lifestyle. There is no excuse, ladies, for not looking flawless in our makeup this summer.

Spring Makeup Trend: Tangerine Tango

Each December the people who know color, Pantone, unveil the color of the following year. For 2012, that color is Tangerine Tango. While shades of orange have been visible in fashion for the past few seasons, orange became a hit last spring as the bold lip color to try. Now for 2012 it is the color trend in both fashion and beauty. Check out some hot ways to wear Tangerine Tango and its complementary colors from the spring palette.

The Tangerine Tango Spring Color Palette

Tangerine is a dark, yet vibrant orange that is a classic summer shade. However, this reddish-orange hue is not the only hot color for the coming spring season. Check out the rest of the Spring Tangerine Tango palette:

1. Solar Power - marigold yellow

2. Bellflower - dark lavender

3. Cabaret - hot pink

4. Sodalite Blue - navy

5. Margarita - light sage or dark mint

6. Sweet Lilac - slightly darker baby pink

7. Cockatoo - muted aqua

8. Driftwood - light pewter

9. Starfish - brassy taupe

Tangerine Lips with a Blue Jean Eye

Last spring, the denim eye was a bold beauty trend. For spring 2012, this look is back but a little subdued. Create a smoky blue jean eye with a navy liner, taupe and pewter eyeshadow. Finish off with mascara in black or navy. Pair your smoky blue jean eye with tangerine lips for a bold spring look that is sexy.

Products to Try from AVON:

• Mega Impact Eyeshadow in Nude Attitude, $8.00

• Jillian Dempsey for Avon Professional Eye Smokifier in Blue Grey, $8.00

• SuperSHOCK Max Mascara in Black, $9.00

• ULTRA COLOR RICH Moisture Seduction Lipstick SPF 15 in Tangerine, $8.00

Get a Ripened Flush of Color

Spring and summer are when the skin naturally takes on a warm flush of color as the weather gets warmer. A ripe, pinch of tangerine color on the cheeks will add warmth and a pop of color to the face. Since tangerine is a warm color it complements skin tones from fair to deep. Pair those ripened cheeks with a fruit punch lip and a shimmering pastel eye with a bold upper lash line for a vibrant look this spring.

Products to Try from the SEPHORA COLLECTION:

• Colorful Mono Eyeshadow in Sweet Candy, Swimming Pool, Fame and Fortune, French Riviera Gold and I Love the 80's for $12.00 each

• Waterproof Smoky Cream Liner in Bewitch Me, Electric Teal, Made in Manhattan, Water Park, Must Have, Rags to Riches or Statue Bronze for $10.00 each

• Lush Flush Lip and Cheek Stain in Pinot or Rose for $12.00 each

• Colorful Blush in Apricot Sheen or Coral Crush for $13.00 each

A Bright Citrus Eye is Bold for Spring

Tangerine makes the biggest and most stunning impact when used on the lips or cheeks for a pop of color. However, don't be afraid to go bold and wear this hot color on your eyes as well. A bold citrus eye goes well with the pale luminous glow seen on the spring 2012 runways last September. When going this bold and bright with eye color it is best to keep lips neutral or pale and cheeks at a pale flush or bare. As I am always one for improvising and know that it may be a bit difficult to find a tangerine eyeshadow, I recommend substituting a tangerine blush or lip color as your eyeshadow. It's all about making it work!

Products to Try from Urban Decay:

• Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original or Greed for $19.00 each

• Matte Eyeshadow in ABC Gum for $17.00

• Afterglow Glide-On Cheek Tint in Bang or Indecent for $24.00 each

• Lipstick in 5150 for $22.00

These three tangerine makeup combinations will definitely brighten up your look for spring. The product selections given are simply guides to help you. You can purchase the products listed or use them as a guide to find a similar shade from your favorite makeup brand or at a cost that is more affordable to you. As always, have fun with makeup and play around with the different shades found in the spring Tangerine Tango color palette. You never know what beauty trend you may start.

How to Fix Tired Eyes Quick

Going out tonight but your eyes make it look like you have had the week from Hades? Don't worry. There are a few makeup tricks that will have your eyes looking fresh in just minutes. Knowing what to use and how to use it will keep you from answering all those nagging questions about what is keeping you up at night.

Here are some quick ways to fix tired eyes.

Condition Your Lashes: Lush eyelashes do not stick around forever so take of your eyelashes now. Healthy looking lush eyelashes can really make a huge difference to the look of your eye taking them from drab to fabulous. Conditioning your lashes with conditioning mascara is a great way to strengthen you eyelashes. For those who already have skimpy eyelashes, teh conditioner is a great product because the ingredients will plump up your lashes when applied. You can buy clear conditioning mascara for a natural look or colored mascara to get both the defined lashes and the conditioner at once.

Choose the Right Concealer: The quickest way to fix the dark circles under your eyes that just will not go away is with concealer. Any concealer will not work though, look for cover up that is one shade lighter than your skin tone and has a yellow color base. Tired eyes will look instantly lighter and fresh. A word of caution here, avoid overloading your eyes with concealer which will just end up making your eyes look worse. Also use the following tip to draw attention up and away from your lower eye lid.

Line Your Eye Lids: Lining your upper lash lines serves two purposes. The first is to help solve the problem of darck circles under yoru eyes, adding eye liner will draw the people's attention up and away from those dark lids. Second, eyeliner opens the eye making it pop more and help fake a fresh looking eye. Avoid using very rich and dark tones of eyeliner; instead try on a natural color that is also smudge proof.

Add Shimmer: Do not go glitter crazy!! A little bit of shimmer in the right places can drastically change the appearance of your eyes making them look wider and brighter. Instead of adding shimmery eye shadow to your entire lid, use a muted eyeliner in as natural a color as possible. Then with the tip of your finger dab on some shimmery eyeliner in the inner corner of your eye and spread it halfway across your eyelid. Do this on the bottom eyelid as well.

With the right products you can have your tired looking eyes looking fabulous in minutes.

Simple Hair Accents that Anyone can Craft

Fashion from Head to Toe Begins with Hair

If you believe what the Bible says, that every woman's hair is her crowning glory, then prepare to enhance the natural beauty of your hair with hair fashion accessories. If the budget is small, don't despair because anyone can create lovely hair accessories that will be in fashion with very little expense. Whether hair is long or short, hair fashion accessories can be simple.

Begin with something basic - bobby pins. Bobby pins come in two sizes - the standard small crinkled style that most of us are familiar with and larger hair pins. Both types can be dressed up very easily. Take a basic bobby pin in brown or black or gray and paint it. Nail polish can coat the bobby pin with color or sparkles. Coordinate your nails with your hair ornaments. Or, splurge a little and buy acrylic paints in any craft store or department. If you have an artistic talent, paint stripes of different shades on the pins. You can also dress up bobby pins by glueing a few rhinestones or other costume jewels to the pins. Similar styles sell in stores but you can make your own for pennies on the dollar. These make great fashion accessories that are different and easy to create!

The same goes for long metal hair barrettes. Although these now come in several different metallic shades, metal hair barrettes can also be painted or adorned. These can be the base for the fashion accessory that you make.

Another use for the long, sturdy hair barrettes that clasp is to build a hair bow to place on the barrette. Making hair bows is much simpler that most people think. The supplies needed are a barrette or heavy comb, satin ribbon in the color or colors of your choice, glue (a hot glue gun is great for this), and some straight pins.

Begin by cutting a bottom layer of satin ribbon into a 16 inch strip. Mark 1/2 inch from each end and then fold the ends into the center. Match the ends together in a neat way and pin in place. Next, cut a second layer in a 14 inch long strip. Repeat the same process and fold, placing above the first layer and pin. Repeat with an additional layer using a 12 inch strip. Glue each layer together and to the barrette using the smallest possible amount of glue. Let dry and the bow is ready to wear! Create unique bows by mixing colors - each layer can be a different shade or adding extra layers for an especially large bow. Bows can also be made by folding a strip of material about 16 inches long and four inches wide into a fan like shape. Pin n place and glue. Always remove remaining pins after glue is dry.

Silk flowers can also be glued onto a hair clip or barrette for an attractive fashion accent. Be creative - use sea shells to cover a wide barrette or cover one with buttons. The sky is the limit and you're in charge of making anything work as a hair fashion accessory!

Use home crafted hair accessories to make that fashion statement and save money! Your hair can be the envy of your friends when you create your own unique hair fashions!

Passport to Beauty - Beauty Tips from Around the World

Beauty and Makeup Tips and Secrets from Women Around the World
We all love natural products. We love the way they smell and feel. Beauty products are no exception. But do you know the secrets of natural beauty products of the world? Author and makeup artist Shalini Vadhera searched the world and found the secrets women throughout the world have been using for generations. In her new book PASSPORT TO BEAUTY she shares some of her secrets.

Shalini Vadhera is not only a celebrity and makeup artist, she is also a noted traveler. Born part Indian and American she marveled at the things she was taught from her ancestors. She learned many tips from other women as she traveled. Soon she decided she should share these tips. Thus came her book PASSPORT TO BEAUTY. Below are a few tips that are listed in further detail in her book.

BRAZIL:

These golden women are known to be some of the most beautiful women of the world. Want to know a couple of there secrets? How about this one? They use common beach sand to remove cellulite and dead skin from their bodies? They just pick up a handful and begin rubbing. Some companies are beginning to incorporate this same sand into their soaps. Speaking of skin, you know the women of Brazil are known for their rich, deep tans. Know how they keep their tans? Before they go out to sunbathe, they are known to drink carrot juice. They also drink beet juice on a regular basis to help intensify their skin. Just remember too much sun can be dangerous.

JAPAN:

Japanese Geisha girls are known for their flawless skin. One reason is that many love Camellia Nut Oil. Seems this oil is great for many skin conditions: dark spots, stretch marks, dry cuticles and can be used as a moisturizer. It can be found at local herbal shops.

CHINA

Here in the US we love Green Tea. China, on the other hand, use a lot of White Tea for many different products. Some of cosmetic lines are coming out with lines with white tea incorporated within them. Seems the white tea also has many different antioxidants in them, plus they are beneficial to help keep one from aging.

SPAIN

Women from Spain are known for their rich dark hair. Seems some of this hair color comes from Cranberry juice. Women here are known to use cranberry juice as a final rinse. They mix 1/4 cup of cranberry juice and 1/4 cup of water and rinse. But if you are blonde, do not use cranberry juice, try lemon juice instead.

INDIA

Women here are also known for their thick, shiny hair. They love Coconut oil. If you want thicker, shinier, or stronger hair, try a scalp massage with Coconut oil. Warm the oil in water and massage it onto the scalp of your head, leave on overnight and then rinse. Do this once a week. It also helps strengthen thinning hair.

AUSTRALIA

Women here love tea tree oil. It gives their skin a youthful glow. It can help many skin damage problems: sun, acne, dryness, and even some skin funguses. Just add a few drops to your normal cleanser or moisturizer. If you have dandruff you can add a few drops to your shampoo, to help stop the flakes, too.

Nice tips. You can find more in Shanlini Vadhera's book; PASSPORT TO BEAUTY.

Shanlini Vadherea is a celebrity makeup artist who has worked with such productions as DANCING WITH THE STARS, CBS STUDIOS, DISNEY STUIDIOS, THE SURVIVOR REUNIONS and many, many entertainment stars (too many to mention).

PASSPORT TO BEAUTY generally sells for anywhere from $20.00 to $10.00, not a bad price for learning beauty secrets from around the world.

Best Budget Beauty Tips for Moms

Need Some Tips on How to Look Your Best on a Budget? Here Are the Top Ten Ways to Stay in a Budget and Still Look Fabulous!

Are you trying to look and feel your best, but finding money is getting tighter and tighter? Well, here are a few budget beauty tips to help moms stretch their dollars. Trust, me I know how hard it is to change up the beauty routine with new products and new ideas. But you may be surprised that you can either find your favorite products for cheaper or just find an inexpensive alternative. In addition, I've also got some tips about how moms can cut their haircut bill.

Shop Online

You can usually find everything cheaper by shopping online. For example, I love Mary Kay products, but sometimes I just can't afford to spend that kind of money. You can usually save at least 20 to 30% when you buy MK products on eBay and Amazon. The same would hold true for just about any brand name beauty product you can think of.

Haircuts on a Budget
A good haircut can be very pricey, especially if you need a color too. I do have a regular stylist that I love; however, sometimes in between major cuts, I will go to a budget hair cutting shop. I would totally recommend going to one of these budget places for trims and touch-ups to your current hairstyle. Another reason why these budget places are a good option is because you don't need an appointment. You can just walk in whenever it's convenient for your busy schedule.

Look for closeouts
You can find great deals on closeout items at your local supermarkets and drugstores. These are products that the stores are selling at a huge discount because they're no longer going to be carrying these products. One of my local stores was doing an organic beauty supply closeout and the deals were awesome. I've also gotten some great lipsticks at drugstores, on closeout, for under a dollar. If you ever pass by one of these tables, I highly recommend checking them out.

Buy in Bulk

If your favorite beauty product is available in bulk, stock up. You'll usually save around 20-25% at the warehouse stores. Plus, you save time because you'll be well-stocked on your item for awhile. As all moms know, time is equally as important as money.

Aveda Institutes

Check and see if you have an Aveda Institute in your town. You can get a huge assortment of hair and spa services at a discounted rate because your services will be performed by a student at the Aveda Institute. Don't worry about it being a student because according to the Aveda Institute, all services are performed by students under the supervision of licensed educators.

Alternate your beauty routine

As I stated earlier, I love my Mary Kay products, but my wallet doesn't. A great way to make your expensive products last longer is to alternate them with an inexpensive product. For example, I found this great and inexpensive product that I use, it's called Clean & Clear Facial Wash by Johnson & Johnson, and it costs under $5. I alternate this Clean & Clear cleanser with my Mary Kay cleanser.

Hair Bands/Headbands

If your hair is starting to grow out and you're trying to make it look nice until your next haircut, try a hair band. You can get very nice ones at the Dollar Tree and Wal-Mart. These are very simple and cheap accessories that can really make your hair look nice.

Dye Your Own Hair

Having your hair dyed at a salon can get very pricey. If you're looking for some good inexpensive hair dyes, here are a couple of good ones to try, Clairol and Garnier Nutrisse . They both run about $5.99-$6.99 a box.

Facial Exercises

Instead of spending thousands of dollars and having major cosmetic surgery, how about trying some facial exercises to firm and tone up the muscles on your face and neck. Here is a link to an incredible website, shapeyourface.com that has five different exercises for toning up those muscles. You will target the muscles under your eyes, mouth, chin, front of neck, and scalp.

Product Review: Why I Love M.A.C. Eye Shadow

So you're curious about M.A.C eye shadows, aren't you? Well, you have arrived at the perfect page. Here, you'll find out everything that's wonderful about M.A.C, and why you should shamelessly pick up a pot of color without any regrets!

I'm usually shop at Wal-Mart. I don't believe in expensive clothing, but for some strange reason, I'm a sucker for cosmetics. I try to stick to the Wal-Mart brands...you know, like Cover Girl, Maybelline, even N.Y.C. I've always heard rumors about M.A.C., which stands for Makeup Artists Cosmetics. Then I discovered a friend in college wearing this beautiful, vibrant shade of green. Of course, she told me it was M.A.C., and naturally, my curiosity peaked.

So I marched into a mall, walked over to the M.A.C. counter, and stared at the colors. You would not believe the array of different colors that are produced by M.A.C. They have over one hundred and fifty colors. It's needless to say that I was extremely overwhelmed, but more excited than anything. I chose two colors: Swimming (which is a lustrous scintillating sea green. And, I also purchased Crème de Violet, which is a frosty, vivid pinkish-violet that's flecked with tiny bits of gold shimmer. Unfortunately, M.A.C. did not carry any eye shadow applicators, so I had to purchase that elsewhere.

One little downfall that you may immediately notice regarding M.A.C. eye shadows is the prices. The price for each individual pot of M.A.C eye shadow can range from 12-18 dollars. This is actually one of the reasons why I tried my best to stay away from the M.A.C. eye shadows in the beginning. It could become a pretty expensive little addiction. But once you wear it and see how your whole faces brightens up with just a sweep of M.A.C. eye shadow, the price isn't going to be a factor....unless you buy all one hundred and sixty M.A.C. eye shadows! Tempting, of course! But that can be a HUGE 'ouch' factor to your wallet book!

The M.A.C. eye shadows come in little black pots that are 15 centimeters deep and four centimeters across. The little black pots are easy to open with their little effortless snaps which are extremely convenient. Also, M.A.C. eye shadows have a little clear window built in the pot of eye shadow so that you may see which color you are going to use...which would come in extremely handy when you're trying to dig through your black hole (also known as your purse!) in an effort to find what makeup pieces you wish to apply for that day.

When you finally get around to having the M.A.C. eye shadow in your hand and a good quality applicator, you'll notice that when you apply your M.A.C eye shadow, the product will go on so smoothly. You don't even have to use too much to cause a huge effect. I kind of made the mistake of rubbing my applicator too hard upon the surface of the M.A.C. eye shadow. That's usually what I do with store-brand eye shadows...it seems that you have to rub a little harder to even get some color to attach to the applicator wand! But with the M.A.C eye shadows, one little swipe will do the trick. No packing on of eye shadow required. That's a good thing in the long run because it will help your M.A.C. eye shadow last longer than it already does.

If you don't feel like lugging a makeup bag around, you don't have to! Not once during the day will you find a need to have to re-apply your M.A.C. eye shadow. M.A.C. eye shadows have strong staying power, and the vibrancy of the color lasts for most of the day.

Earlier, we mentioned the overwhelming rainbow of colors that M.A.C. eye shadows range from. All these eye shadows have their own texture as well. The eye shadow finishes are frost, luster, matte, satin, veluxe, veluxe pearl, and velvet. Pretty impressive, huh? Well, now you must be educated on what each of these finishes represents in order to choose a look that's right for you when you visit the M.A.C. cosmetic counter yourself. Frost gives very iridescent shine that adds a highlighting effect to any color. Lustre is represented by M.A.C eye shadow that is smooth and pearlized. Lustre M.A.C eye shadows are frosted in nature and have a very fine "conditioned" finish. Matte eye shadow is a high color in a finish that has absolutely no shine. This is for those ladies out there who hate anything with shine or glitters. It's just pure, highly pigmented, beautiful color. The Satin finish is also pure color, but, of course, in a satin-finish style. It's light refractive, and has no frosting effect. The color is usually very soft and subtle for those who are a little shy but want to be noticed! Veluxe Pearl M.A.C. eye shadows are a shimmering metallic huge, which is also velvety soft and quite vibrant in color. It also has a high-shine color with very vibrant tones! Veluxe itself is very fine pigmented color which is quite rich and supple to apply. It produces a matte finish, but with a silky and smooth appearance. Finally, we have the velvet M.A.C. texture for eye shadows. Velvet will give you a very soft look with high color intensity. Velvet also has a very post velvety look and appearance.

I have received more compliments on my first week wearing my M.A.C. eye shadows than I have ever had wearing drug-store brands in my life! You may think that's an exaggeration, but the proof is in the pudding. (Your face provides the canvas for the figurative pudding, of course!) Once you try M.A.C, you may just never go back to what you used to use! It has to be due to the fact that the colors are so vibrant and fully pigmented, or how the M.A.C. eye shadows have perfect blend ability. Maybe you'll love how the M.A.C eye shadows don't crease in your lid, or how the silky look earns you second glances.

Not like I'm a hard hitting vegan or anything, (and if you happen to be, there's nothing wrong with that!), but I love that M.A.C. does not test on animals when developing cosmetics, and also it's respectable that M.A.C's Viva Glam line has raised so much money for HIV and AIDS treatment since 1994. The final question is this: would I recommend M.A.C. eye shadow to you? The verdict: Of course I would! All you have to do is skimp on a few Frappachino's at Starbucks and pocket that money for the next time you go to the mall. Ask for a trial run of the colors you love, or even ask for advice on what colors complement your eyes and skin tones! You'll be amazed at what a difference a little beautiful, velvety pigment could make. Mix, blend, match...be crazy! Give it a whirl; you can't go wrong with M.A.C!

Choosing and Using Shimmery Eye Shadow

Eye shadow is big on self expression and shimmery eye shadow is all the rage. The colors and hues available are virtually limitless, and eye shadow textures range from light dusts and powders to glitter, cream, or even liquid that turns to powder as it dries. Eye shadow can really dress up your look, whether you opt for dramatic colors that accentuate your eyes and your outfit, or subtle, neutral tones that complement your clothing and skin tone.

The eye shadow colors of the season seem to be bright and bold or smoky and seductive, although glimmery whites and neutrals add a lovely, soft element. Favorite eye shadow colors in many parts of the world seem to be in the purple and aquamarine families - especially amethyst, and purples paired with shimmery whites. The unspoken rule: don't be afraid to go a little bolder, a little darker!

Bold Shades - Brilliant, Daring, and Dramatic

Makeup gives us an opportunity to enhance our best features, and for many, the eyes are among the top. If you enjoy setting and following trends, the bold and intense eye shadow colors might be perfect for you. Just imagine a lovely purple hue accenting your look, or a sparkling turquoise drawing attention to your eyes. You can pair these deeper shades with pale counterparts or a shimmery white eye shadow for a sexy, come-and-get-me look.

Many brands started offering eye shadow sets boasting three, four, or even five complementing hues. Another popular style of glimmery, shimmery eye shadow is loose shimmer dust. New York Color Sparkle Eye Dust Shimmery Eyeshadow is a spa and salon favorite, but it is available online for only about $3 to $7. The loose powder colors cascade through an icy blue to frosty pinks, all presented in a spill-proof jar with their own makeup brushes.

Beautiful spring organic shades like orange, green, yellow, blue, and brown are making waves in the makeup world. Score some bold and beautiful eye shadows in these shades and experiment to create your own daring look. Mix and match eye shadow colors or stick to a single shade. Enjoy creating a look that works for you!

Neutrals - Soft and Sensuous

If you aren't quite brave enough for a brilliant teal or turquoise splash of color across your lids, or a pummeling of purple atop your eyes, you may want to stay within the realms of less is more. Don't be disappointed if you aren't comfortable with intense shades of eye shadow. With less of a dramatic hue, you can still have a rockin' look. Just choose a product that offers a subtle sparkle!

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Bronzer, Blush & Eye Shadow is a fabulous product for adding just a hint of color to your lids. I chose this type of combination eye shadow, blush, and bronzer makeup to wear on my wedding day. It worked out beautifully and I can't get enough of it still! The shimmer strips are available in several hues, and each compact features five different shades. The powder packs a punch with built-in sparkle. Turn it up with the darker, bottom color strips or tone it down with the top shimmer strips in lighter shades.

The nice thing about Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Bronzer, Blush & Eye Shadow is that you can use it all over your face to add shimmer and a tanner appearance. The highly practical and functional versatility make this makeup product well worth the $10 to $12 it costs. The texture is clean and smooth, and it goes on easily as eye shadow. In my experiences, it's even stayed put for all day or all night wear!

Wearing eye shadow can change your appearance as a fun and daring draw to your eyes. Express yourself through your eyes - after all, eye shadow can only add to your mystique when paired with powerful eye contact!

How to Choose the Right Makeup for Your Skin

You work hard to look your best. You spend hours choosing the perfect outfit, fixing your hair, and applying makeup. As we've all seen, sometimes the makeup ruins the look. Before applying makeup, you should make sure you choose the right makeup to avoid looking like a clown or tanning disaster victim.

The Basics

Foundation should match your skin tone. When shopping use the inside of your wrist or back of your hand to find the perfect shade. Stores have shade cards you use to compare. Using your hand or wrist will let you find a shade the same color as your face. If you choose shades lighter or darker, you will have a definitive line between your neck and face.

Foundation will help create a smooth, even color for your face, even if you have dark or red patches. However, sometimes you have acne and scars that may need a little more coverage. Concealer is available in skin tone colors and white, green, blue, yellow, and even purple. Green, blue, and yellow concealers work well at hiding red or inflamed areas. White hides dark circles and bruises, while purple creates a brighter complexion. However, skin tone colors are the most popular and work quite well at covering most imperfections.

Eye shadow can be used to help accentuate the eyes. Most people use a color close to their own eye color or the color of their clothing. If going with the seasonal method, darker shades are worn in the fall and winter while brighter colors are worn in the spring and summer.

For blush, go easy. Big, red circles are not attractive unless you're in the circus. Use a light shade to complement the skin. This will be roughly the same color as if you actually blushed.

Lipstick and gloss are extremely popular. Be careful when using dark colors. Make sure the color complements you skin color and clothing. Many people stick with lighter colors similar to their natural lip color. Glosses are also a great way to achieve shiny, kissable lips without a lot of color.

Skin Type

It's important to know your skin type and use a makeup especially made for your type. Most foundations and concealers are made for oily, dry, combination, or normal skin. Water based foundations are best for oily skin, while oil-based creams work better with dry skin.

Teens' skin will change as they grow. It's hard to determine the best makeup for them. Using makeup for combination skin may be the best option until their skin is finished changing.

Other Considerations

The right makeup will not cause acne and splotching. If you notice any problems, discontinue use and find something else immediately.

During the summer, waterproof makeup is a must, especially if you spend much time outdoors. This will prevent your makeup from running.

Makeup with antioxidants, vitamins, moisturizers, and SPF should be considered over those without it. For dry skin, moisturizers will help the skin stay smoother longer. Also, SPF protects the face from the sun's harmful rays.

Remember to always wash the face before applying makeup. Also, remove all makeup before exercising or going to bed. This will prevent acne from makeup clogging the pores.

Choosing the right makeup isn't hard. Just take the time to know your skin type and color. Take a few minutes to check out the variety of products available at your local drug store and you will find the perfect makeup for you.

Best Way to Wear Mardi Gras Eye Makeup

Whether you're headed to a parade or plan to attend a party, you want a festive Mardi Grad look that stays in place and doesn't require a visit to a makeup artist or beauty salon. As a professional makeup gal, I can give you a few tips for a pretty, flirty Mardi Gras eye makeup look. First, it starts with color, then technique. If you plan to dance the night away or think it might rain do wear waterproof eye makeup. It stays in place even if you sweat!

Best colors to try? Traditionally, Mardi Gras colors are gold, green and purple so you can't go wrong by choosing those. However, other bold colors work well too like peacock blue or bright raspberry. I like a black eyeliner for detail but for bigger, bolder color, you can't go wrong with a shimmery, colored eyeliner. It should match one of the colors you plan to use. You'll also need a waterproof mascara and of course, some primer. Here's what you should do.

1. Start with neat eyebrows. Pluck those random hairs and make sure the brows have a nice shape. You want plenty of space for a color application.

2. Prepare the skin with an application of primer or foundation makeup. This will smooth out uneven skin tone and make your colors stand out.

3. Cover the entire eye with the lightest color like gold, yellow or pink. If you think this is too extreme or makes your eyes look small, leave a ¼ inch space under the brows for a sand or white highlighter.

4. Apply a line in the crease with shimmering eyeliner in blue or purple. Then line along the top lashes too. Smooth the lines with a sponge tip applicator.

5. Fill in the lower lid with the brightest color like blue or purple. I prefer a makeup brush but you can use a sponge tip applicator too.

6. Blend it all together with a fresh brush. Line the water with black eyeliner and apply two coats of mascara.

It's that simple! You can also get creative with the black eyeliner and draw on some swirls along the outside of the eye. A few lines to extend the natural eye line makes a pretty effect too. Let the good times roll with this fantastic Mardi Gras eye makeup look!
