Whether you're headed to a parade or plan to attend a party, you want a festive Mardi Grad look that stays in place and doesn't require a visit to a makeup artist or beauty salon. As a professional makeup gal, I can give you a few tips for a pretty, flirty Mardi Gras eye makeup look. First, it starts with color, then technique. If you plan to dance the night away or think it might rain do wear waterproof eye makeup. It stays in place even if you sweat!
Best colors to try? Traditionally, Mardi Gras colors are gold, green and purple so you can't go wrong by choosing those. However, other bold colors work well too like peacock blue or bright raspberry. I like a black eyeliner for detail but for bigger, bolder color, you can't go wrong with a shimmery, colored eyeliner. It should match one of the colors you plan to use. You'll also need a waterproof mascara and of course, some primer. Here's what you should do.
1. Start with neat eyebrows. Pluck those random hairs and make sure the brows have a nice shape. You want plenty of space for a color application.
2. Prepare the skin with an application of primer or foundation makeup. This will smooth out uneven skin tone and make your colors stand out.
3. Cover the entire eye with the lightest color like gold, yellow or pink. If you think this is too extreme or makes your eyes look small, leave a ¼ inch space under the brows for a sand or white highlighter.
4. Apply a line in the crease with shimmering eyeliner in blue or purple. Then line along the top lashes too. Smooth the lines with a sponge tip applicator.
5. Fill in the lower lid with the brightest color like blue or purple. I prefer a makeup brush but you can use a sponge tip applicator too.
6. Blend it all together with a fresh brush. Line the water with black eyeliner and apply two coats of mascara.
It's that simple! You can also get creative with the black eyeliner and draw on some swirls along the outside of the eye. A few lines to extend the natural eye line makes a pretty effect too. Let the good times roll with this fantastic Mardi Gras eye makeup look!
