Laser Hair Removal and Your Not-So-Public Areas

First things first, can you have laser hair removal on your pubic area? Absolutely, the only area that you can not have laser hair removal on is your eyelashes and some clinics won't do eyebrows. Women can remove just the hair on their bikini line or all of the hair on their pubic area if they chose. The same applies to men also; you chose how much you want removed. You can even have laser hair removal preformed on your areolas. You should always check with a technician, not all laser hair removal treatment centers will perform all procedures.

So what are the benefits of laser hair removal on your pubic area compared to other methods? Laser hair removal is fast and come on; it definitely can't be as painful as waxing! Shaving your pubic area is time consuming and can be dangerous if you cut yourself. Not to mention razor burn and sometimes itchiness when the hair re-grows. You will need more than one treatment but the hair grows back thinner and in some cases lighter than before. The longer you continue to have treatments the faster they will be since there will be less hair to remove. Laser hair removal is also faster and has less risk than electrolysis.

Why would you want to pay two hundred fifty dollars or even up to a grand at some places? With laser hair removal you get clean long lasting results. Maybe you spouse enjoys you having less hair, you want to wear that bikini or thong with confidence, you have hair in unsightly places, or maybe you just don't want it anymore. There might also be hygiene benefits to less hair down there! Fewer bacteria become trapped and you sweat less with no hair, which in turn also means you smell better. Regardless of your reason, many people have this treatment done and agree it is well worth the cost.

I know what you're thinking, but is it safe? Laser hair removal on your pubic area is not known to be any more dangerous than on your arm or any other place on your body. There are the same risks and benefits no matter what area is being worked on. Of course it is a professional procedure and you should not be embarrassed; it is possible for men to have an erection during the treatment. This occurs frequently and there are no known risks or dangers associated with it. Laser hair removal on the pubic area is proven to be safer than electrolysis on the pubic area because of the risks of bacteria invasion with electrolysis.

It has to be more painful right? Well, yes pretty much. Laser hair removal has been said to feel like a light sting or pinch.

Obviously a pinch to your privates will hurt worse than a pinch to the leg. Many treatment centers offer anesthetics that can be rubbed on the skin prior to treatment though; and many recommend taking one or two painkillers such as Tylenol an hour before coming in if you're sensitive to pain. You should not have lasting pain after the procedure so these options should do the trick for very sensitive areas.

Okay, what about side effects? Side effects for laser hair removal on your pubic area are the same as other areas. The area treated may remain red for up to a day and might be sensitive for a few hours. Many patients' redness goes away within hours or minutes. Cold compresses can significantly reduce the length of redness and sensitivity as well. Sometimes the skin treated may become darker or lighter so tanning before treatment should be avoided, if you are of a darker complexion the risk is higher so speak with a certified technician beforehand about your risks.

Overall if you can afford the sessions, laser hair removal is a wonderful way to get rid of any unwanted hair, especially on your pubic area. It is fast, safe, clean, and has numerous options available for every need or desire. You should always laser hair removal performed by a certified technician and don't be afraid to get references, if they are good their previous patients won't be afraid to tell you. Always discuss risks, expectations, and pre/post treatment directions to make sure you are currently (and stay) a good candidate for laser hair removal.

Laser Hair Removal

Get Back Your Beautiful Skin

Do you have the odd chin hair that never goes away? Maybe you have a mustache, and you're not male! Yikes! Do not be dismayed. There are reliable, effective methods of getting rid of unwanted facial and body hair. In just moments, hair is removed and soft, smooth, stubble-free skin is revealed. With laser hair removal, you won't have to shave, tweeze, wax or have the cost of electrolysis. Laser hair removal is permanent.

Laser hair removal has improved with new technological advancements over the years. There are many less effective and not as safe lasers in operation today. You should locate a cosmetic center that uses the latest state-of-art equipment for your own safety and comfort.

You may wonder if there is much pain or discomfort involved in this procedure. Actually, with the laser hair removal treatment, a laser pulse is released and the resulting feeling has been compared to getting snapped with a rubber band. The affected area may become warm and turn red. Reactions to treatment are different for different areas of the body and the type of hair being treated. Usually, this lasts between a few minutes and a few hours. In most cases, you are able to return to your normal activities immediately.

A light beam from the laser is projected onto your skin where you have unwanted hair growth. This makes the hair follicle disabled and patients report almost no pain or side effects. Men and women both find laser hair removal treatment an effective, comfortable way to get rid of unwanted hair growth.

There is no one that is advised against having the laser hair removal treatment. This treatment does work best on someone with fair skin, dark hair, and one that is not tanned in the affected area. Darker skin types can also benefit from laser hair removal. If you do have darker skin, discuss the safety of their lasers as some of the older models can damage pigmented skin.

Treatment times vary. Facial areas can be treated in just a few minutes. Bikini lines and underarms take 10 minutes and for your legs, back, and chest, expect one to two hours in the cosmetic center.

If you are having other skin treatments, such as microdermabrasion, or cellulite smoothing, the laser hair removal can be done but usually not in the same day.

Contact your local center or physician for a consultation and be on your way to beautiful skin.

My Experience with Laser Hair Removal of My Bikini Area at Lifetime Laser

I can't tell you how hard it is being a girl. First we have the "hormonal" issues, and then we have the standards we have to live by to please our mates. This includes many things, but the main thing I speak of is keeping our skin smooth and hairless. Shaving, waxing, bleaching, and tweezing are many of the methods used. Whatever we must do to get it done, we do it. Unfortunately, this gets rather tedious. No matter how often you do it, the hair just comes back faster and faster. I myself got rather irritated by this and decided to look into laser hair removal. I absolutely hate having any hair in my bikini area. Constant shaving and waxing was time consuming and painful.

I had heard that laser hair removal was permanent and worked quite well in the bikini area. I did my research and decided to go to Lifetime Laser of Texas located in Frisco, Texas. The technician there explained all aspects of laser hair removal and about the particular laser machine that she used.

First I will go over the laser machine that is used. Lifetime Laser in Frisco, Texas uses the Candela GentleLase Plus. The technician lovingly called it "the Rolls-Royce" of laser hair removal machines. It just so happens that Candela is the global leader in medical and anesthetic laser machines. The GentleLase Plus is made with an alexandrite laser that is quicker, safer, and less painful than other laser machines. Alexandrite laser machines have been proven to provide the best results as well. The GentleLase Plus has a high energy pulse that delivers the laser beam at a much faster rate than the more common ruby laser machines. It also has the patented Dynamic Cooling Device that provides less pain and more comfort. This machine has also been approved by the FDA for permanent hair removal.

Now I will explain how the laser works to remove your hair. Laser hair removal works by using a precisely calibrated laser beam. This laser beam targets the melanin (pigment) in a hair follicle. This process is called photothermolysis. It then heats the follicle thus destroying its ability to re-grow hair. The laser beam passes harmlessly through the skin, targeting the follicle, not your skin.

I found myself asking if I really wanted a laser pointing at my bikini area. I mean how safe is it and will it really work? I asked a lot of questions and the technician took a lot of time to explain everything to me in detail.

First off, it is very effective. However, it will take several treatments. It usually takes 5, but it can take several more depending on certain factors. These are: skin color, hair color, hair thickness, hormones, diet, medications and metabolism. An example, if you have particularly thick hair, it will take more treatments to get rid of it permanently. Also, if you have darker skin, it can take more treatments as well. The laser also does not work for light hair. So if you want grey, blonde, or red hair removed, you will have to stick to shaving, waxing, or plucking. Ouch!

There are some other precautions and issues that can inhibit the effectiveness of the laser. Certain antibiotics can cause skin tone changes when used while getting the laser treatment. You have to let the technician know of this or any other medications you may be on. Lucky for me, I am fearful of medication so I had nothing in my system when I got the procedure done. Another issue is you skin tone. You cannot tan the area that is to receive the laser hair removal. The laser targets dark pigmentation of your hair follicle. If your skin is dark, this can inhibit the effectiveness of the treatment. This means no trips to the tanning salons until the entire treatment phase is over.

Before my treatments were to begin, the technician told me that I had to shave the area clean. I was not allowed to wax, tweeze, pluck, or use depilatories until the entire treatment phase was over. This is because these hair removal methods damage the hair follicle itself and would inhibit the growth of the hair follicle, thus rendering the effectiveness of the treatment itself.

Now you may be wondering about the treatment sessions itself. I had my bikini area done. Each visit lasted about 7 minutes. The treatment times will vary depending on what area of the body you are having treated. You can get laser hair removal for your face, legs, back, bikini, or arm pits. The bigger the area is to be treated, the longer each session will take. Each treatment is spaced between 4 and 8 weeks apart. This is because of your hair's growth. Everyone's hair grows differently and over different periods of time. This is called the anagen stage or the growth phase.

This is where my favorite part about Lifetime Laser comes in. You see most laser hair removal facilities charge you $250 to $400 a treatment for the bikini area. If you need at least 5 treatments to get rid of most of your hair, this can cost at least $1250 to $2000. Most people need more than 5 treatments so this means it will cost you more. But this is not an issue with lifetime laser. My fee was $1300. I can get as many treatments as needed and I can come back for touch ups for the rest of my life. I have since had 5 treatments that spanned from July to October. I have not seen any hair return, but it has only been a month since my last treatment. But if I see any, I can go back and have the laser remove it. The technician said that my hair is thick so I will probably need at least 2 more treatments. I don't really mind because it doesn't cost me anything extra! Lifetime Laser guarantees that the hair will be permanently removed, even if it takes more sessions than normal.

If you are wondering if pain is an issue, well that depends on you. I have a very high tolerance for pain. But as it is, I can't say that it was very painful to begin with. Again there are various types of laser hair removal machines. The one used at Lifetime Laser is the most painless of them all. I did happen to have a more sensitive area treated. But it was still not very painful. I can describe it as a light burning sensation that quickly passed as the laser moved on. It sort of felt like a rubber band snapping on me or someone flicking me with their fingers. Afterwards, my skin may was red and a bit swollen. But this went away after two days. You can have a mild anesthetic placed on your skin before treatment if you are worried about pain. However, some people (including me) are allergic to it. It is best not to use it, and honestly, you won't need it. As for the redness and swollen skin afterwards, there is a product that the technician can give you to relieve that sooner. Unfortunately, I happened to be allergic to that as well. But it didn't matter because it was back to normal in two days!

A few days after the treatment, I noticed little black flecks on my skin. This was just the dead hair in the follicle falling out. The technician said to just massage it out with a wash rag and it should just come right off. It did. In no time at all, I had a bikini area that was as smooth as a babies butt!

I have to say that this was the best $1300 dollars I have ever spent. The results were amazing and I had no unexpected side effects! I feel in the long run, this procedure has saved me a lot of time and money that I would have spent waxing it every 5 seconds. Not to mention, men really appreciate the smooth and clean look of my bikini area!

Lifetime Laser also does facial rejuvenation, sun sot removal, age spot removal, and microdermabrasion.

Laser Hair Removal: An Overview

Hair removal can be a frustrating process. Shaving costs itchy rashes and burns; waxing is painful and often causes tough skin; plucking may leave unsightly holes in pores; and electrolysis requires several treatments and can result in ingrown hairs and is hardly worth the pain. This is why so many people are turning to laser hair removal tactics.

Laser hair removal involves safely and easily removing unwanted body hair without the pain and nasty side-effects that some of the other methods contain. Laser hair removal has been proven to cause less damage to pores and will not change the quality or structure of delicate skin. It is also a relatively fast procedure; laser hair removal of the face or bikini line can be completed in less than fifteen minutes, while laser hair removal of the legs or torso may take up to forty-five minutes.

During laser hair removal, a thin coat of clear gel is applied to the area where hair is desired to be removed. Laser pulses are then applied quickly and evenly to the area, which is essentially painless. Some patients report a "tickling" feeling, similar to what you might feel when rolling in dry grass, while in sensitive areas (the bikini line, for example), there might be a light stinging sensation.

Sensitive skin might develop a redness for several hours following laser hair removal, but this is considered normal, and will go away on its own. Some laser hair treatment centers will provide a mild anesthetic cream to reduce the sensations during laser hair removal. Slight swelling is also nothing to be concerned about.

Laser hair removal continues to gain following, especially since the results are permanent and require very few treatments. Women of all ages are flocking to treatment centers to rid their bikini lines, underarms, legs, face, back and buttocks of unwanted hair that would otherwise be removed by less comfortable treatments. Even men have undergone laser hair removal for the face, back, buttocks and chest. The number of treatments necessary to completely stop hair growth varies according to the individual.

Laser Hair Removal is gaining dramatically in popularity - mainly due to the permanent results - and hence the amount of new Laser Hair Removal clinics is mushrooming.

This process works because lasers cause selective damage to targeted hair follicles and does not damage surrounding skin. This practice is called selective photothermolysis because the laser targets dark matter in the area, called chromospheres, which can occur naturally or be artificially introduced.

Again, the results from laser hair removal are varied by individual case, including factors such as skin type, skin color, hair pigment and skin elasticity. It will not work on hair that is the same color or lighter than the surrounding skin, and it doesn't work as well on people with extremely dark skin. However, there are specialized lasers that have been developed for darkly pigmented people.

A typical laser hair removal session costs $400-500, depending on the extent of the covered area, and at least four sessions are usually required to permanently stop the growth of hair from the skin.
