When you feel frazzled, essential oils can help soothe and relax the body. These may consist of extracts from nature's own flowers, grass, seeds, leaves, roots, fruits, and bark, among others. Aromatherapy is a safe, natural way to wind down in the evening after a long, stressful day.
Types of Essential Oils to Soothe and Relax
There are various types of essential oils that can help you relax after a long, hard day. They can either be used alone or blended together for a unique fragrance. Lavender is a common choice for relaxation, and it is my personal favorite, but it is not your only option. Play around with your favorite oils to find a scent you like.

How to Use Essential Oils to Relax the Body
Diffusers: Diffusers provide indirect inhalation benefits. If you don't actually have an oil diffuser, you can place a few drops of your favorite oil(s) on a cotton ball in a shallow dish. For a stronger effect, do this to several cotton balls throughout the house.
Inhalation: Direct inhalation consists of smelling the fragrances from close up. To experience quick relaxation, sniff the oil directly from the bottle. Or, you can treat yourself to a facial at the same time: Boil a pot of water and place a few drops of your favorite essential oil in the water. Remove the water from the stove top, cover your head with a towel and breathe in the steam.
Massage: To use essential oils for massage, mix a few drops of your favorite oil or combination of oils with a carrier, such as jojoba. Ask someone to massage your back with the oil while you relax.
Baths: Simply add several drops of your favorite essential oils to warm bath water, light some candles and relax. Afterward, add five to six drops of the same oil to a teaspoon of unscented lotion and let it soak into your skin.
Room sprays: Mix 20-25 drops of your favorite oils with a teaspoon of alcohol (vodka or rubbing), add a cup of distilled water and shake well. Spray into the air; avoid spraying it on upholstery or clothing.
